Important Updates for Investors
Carla Pasternak's Premiere Issue of High-Yield International Just
Released
Income expert Carla Pasternak's debut issue of High-Yield
International covers a Taiwanese manufacturer yielding 9.5%... a
rare Mexican monopoly yielding 13.4%... and other top-performing
investments yielding up to 19.0%.
Government's Biofuel Timetable Could Spell +15,900% Growth
+15,900% growth might seem far-fetched... but it's not. In fact, it
is mandated by law. And I've identified the ONLY stock positioned to
capture this growth.
The
Silver Lining to a Falling Dollar
Despite the U.S. national debt, there is a silver lining for income
investors. This massive spending, combined with movement out of U.S.
Treasuries, is going to take its toll on the dollar, and
international income investors could reap the rewards in the form of
higher dividends. |

How to Weather the Current
Market Turmoil |
Published:
September 16, 2008
Like many of you, I lived through the bull market of the
1960s, the brutal bear market of the early 1970s, the crash of 1987 and
the irrational exuberance of the 1990s. As someone who earned my stripes
in the stock market, I want to share with you a few guiding principles
that have helped me survive, portfolio intact.
The first and most important thing is not to sell into the panic. The
sell-off we saw on Monday was as extreme as the buying we saw when the
market peaked last October -- both are overdone. History has shown the
market eventually returns to the mean, driven by key fundamentals such
as earnings and dividends. Be sure to hold on to your fundamentally
strong stocks. Over time, value will out.
Number two: Now, more than ever, it is important to apply disciplined
research to stock selection. This is not a time to gamble, but to invest
wisely. Focus on safety -- secure yields, solid credit quality and
strong fundamentals.
The third point is to use this period when the baby is being thrown out
with the bath water to begin to identify bargains. Now is a good time to
develop a watch list of stocks that are fundamentally cheap. Global
equity markets have dropped about -25-30% from the 2007 peak, so many
securities are trading at values not seen in some time. But go slowly --
and do your due diligence.
With these guidelines in mind, we have placed -- and continue to place
-- an emphasis on safety when identifying investment ideas for
High-Yield Investing readers. With a lot of digging, which we enjoy
doing, we will continue to find investments like those below that offer
solid yields and are not just surviving, but actually thriving, in
today's markets.
For example, in
September's issue of High-Yield Investing, we featured
exchange-traded bonds with secure yields. Notes of the specific security
I profiled pay a yield of 8.6% right now and have held their value
extremely well... rising from $9.80 per note when we first profiled them
to $9.95 at the close on Monday.
Likewise, in both the September and August issues of High-Yield
Investing, we focused on special securities like ELKS and SPARQS, which
carry secure yields of 10-14%. At the time I profiled
September's "High-Yield Security of the Month", you could buy it for
$10.13 per share. Today, it's selling for $10.30.
And at the time we showcased a special ELKS in August, it was selling for
$10.30. By Monday's close, the security had moved up to $10.56.
In the upcoming October issue of High-Yield Investing, which will
be going to press in about 10 days, we have an equally solid line-up of
investment ideas. Our focus in this issue is on stocks with a strong
dividend growth history that have continued raising their dividends in
markets both good and bad. Stay tuned, keep calm, and remember: "This
too shall pass."
